I don't see it happening, Matt. I think this team has far more pressing needs to address. If they're going to make any kind of trade, I'd rather it be for a No. 1 receiver.

What's left to do before the start of training camp if your Joe S? Where do you think the overall philosophy of this draft which will really be the first draft with his own scouting department and FO in place? Where has Joe S mistepped if anything? #askptrain #mailbag

Well, you have the draft, of course, to get through, as well as filling out the rest of the roster with undrafted free agents and churning the bottom of the roster based on the health statuses of certain guys as well as your evaluation of them in the spring.

As for Joe's draft philosophy, it's always been the best player available, but I hope to get in a couple of questions when he meets the media next week, which I think will lend some deeper insight.

Where has Joe misstepped? You could argue that he should have exercised Daniel Jones's option year, but I get why he didn't--hindsight is 20/20, after all.

Do you think they're waiting on a Leonard Williams extension until they extend Dex?

Nope. I don't think one has to do with the other--why would it? I am curious to hear from Schoen regarding a possible extension for Leo. I wonder how far those talks have progressed, assuming they've even started.

I am hoping Giants unload a couple of picks this year for picks next year. They had a great run last year and the needle is pointing up but this roster needs improvement everywhere. I think some picks next year could help bring them over the top. Your view?

I'm with you on that. I don't think the Giants are in line to get any comp picks next year, and if I'm Joe Schoen and I have a chance to get some additional assets to use in the future, I'm all over it. But as far as putting the team over the top, that depends on the strength of the class next year and what the Giants' needs are.

(From Andrew G.) If Hendon hooker falls to 57, would you pick him? It would be nice to pull an Eagles and trade one of them for high draft picks if it works out.

No, Andrew. I'm going cornerback and center in that order until I have reason to believe otherwise. This year is not the time to get cute with the draft, not when I know I have Daniel under contract for at least two seasons and additional needs that need to be addressed.

(From Tony D.) What are the Giants going to do now? I already have a trade worked out with Houston. Saquon to Houston for their 2nd and 3rd round picks (2023). Sounds fair to me; we save money and can draft a running back on Day 2.

Tony, please take a deep breath and relax. Seriously, this overreaction to the Saquon Barkley news--which, to be honest, is not a surprise--needs to be kept in check. Barring the unexpected, he'll play on the franchise tag this year and try again next year for the kind of deal he wants. It will be fine; trust me on this.
