If it's not apparent by now what the New York Giants' roster-building plan is, let's spell it out: draft, draft, draft, with some veteran free agents sprinkled in on mostly one-year deals.

That's largely why the Giants, where ever possible, look to accumulate draft picks beyond the seven each team gets every year. Currently, New York has ten picks, but according to Pro Football Focus's latest first-round mock draft, the Giants can not only get more picks, but they can also remain in the first round and address a glaring need on the offensive side of the ball.

Brad Spielberger has the Giants swapping spots with the Saints, who are slated to pick at No. 29 (via the Eagles). The proposed trade has the Saints sending the Giants picks 29, 115 (fourth round), and 165 (fifth round) in exchange for the Giants' picks at No. 25 and 240 (seventh round).

Then with the 29th pick in the draft, the Giants select Wisconsin center Joe Tippmann, addressing a glaring need on the offensive line, a selection made after receiver Quentin Johnston, whom Spielberger defines as the "only true X receiver worthy of first-round consideration," went earlier in the draft.

Tippmann's versatility--he can also play guard--appears to boost his value in the eyes of this particular mock draft. And this move, were it to play out in reality, would be a smart one for the Giants, who, despite downplaying the need for a center after losing both Nick Gates and Jon Feliciano in free agency, would do well to add a young, experienced center to an offensive line where the majority of their projected starters are still on their rookie deals.
