The New York Giants defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence (hamstring) will miss his first career game this week due to injury.

Lawrence, who didn't practice last week, told reporters he tweaked his hamstring on teammate Isaiah Simmons' interception return for a touchdown against the Washington Commanders in New York's 31-19 win. With the bye week coming up, the Giants are playing it safe with their most valuable player on defense by letting him sit for the game.

Lawrence, the Giants' top-graded defender, has a team-leading 53 pass-rush pressures this season and a 20 percent pass-rush win rate. His 22 stops are second on the team behind inside linebacker Bobby Okereke's 28.

His absence is going to be significant against a Patriots rushing game that has seen Rhamondre Stevenson log 126 carries for 482 yards (3.8 yards-per-carry) with three touchdowns, and Ezekiel Elliott rush 68 times for 331 yards (3.7 yards-per-carry) and two touchdowns.

With Lawrence inactive, rookie Jordon Riley is active for the first time since Week 6 against Buffalo.

Receiver Darius Slayton, also listed as doubtful for this week's game, is active. He is the first Giant in the Daboll era listed as doubtful who will play and the first known player with a doubtful designation to be active since Week 8 of 2020.

Offensive tackle Evan Neal (ankle) is also inactive, having been declared out by the team on Friday. Left tackle Andrew Thomas, who is dealing with a sprained MCL, was listed as questionable coming into this weekend's game.

The rest of the Giants' inactive list consists of healthy scratches, including running back Jashaun Corbin, defensive back Gervarrius Owens, and outside linebacker Boogie Basham.

The Patriots inactive players are running back Jamycal Hasty, cornerback Alex Austin, tackle Vederian Lowe, receiver Jalen Reagor, and defensive end Sam Roberts.
