Why the Giants Will Beat the Cowboys, Why They Won't, and a Prediction

In this story:
The week leading up to the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys playing is normally charged with enthusiasm and intrigue.
But when one team, such as the Giants in this case, is in the midst of a lost season, the excitement tends to lack, precisely where we are now with a 2-7 Giants team.
Nonetheless, there are still eight games to be played, this one being one of the eight before we can turn the page on this injury-filled, disappointing season. The Giants head to Dallas to face the team that beat up on them in Week 1. Can New York, a 17.5-point underdog, at least keep it close?
Many people don't think so, but stranger things have happened.
Why the Giants Will Beat Dallas
I know what you're thinking: The Giants won't win this game--they have no chance of winning it, and why am I even bothering to include this section when a blowout loss is likely?
Besides the fact that I have to present arguments for both sides of the coin, there's always the "any given Sunday" angle to consider. You see, upsets in this league are possible and do happen--the Jets handed the Eagles their lone loss thus far this season, the Bears topped the Panthers on Thursday night, and earlier this year, the Broncos knocked off the Chiefs.
So, who knows? Maybe Tommy DeVito, who gets the start this week in an offensive game plan more custom-tailored to his strengths, pulls off the upset. Maybe the defense finally figures out a way to shut down a Cowboys offense that, per Sharp Football Stats, is averaging a league-high 16.7 plays per game that have gained 10+ yards.
And maybe the Giants, currently the last team in the NFL to have not scored a touchdown in the first quarter, will snap that streak.
May Bees don't tend to fly in November, but all I can give you is that there are surprise upsets in which teams with no business winning games come through. So perhaps this will be the game that the Giants have no business winning, yet they find a way to get it done, thus handing the Cowboys their first two-game losing streak since 2021.
Why the Giants Will Lose
The last time these two teams met, the Cowboys punched the Giants so hard in the mouth that it's fair to wonder if New York recovered from that embarrassing loss. Beyond that, there are way too many statistics that point against the Giants in this one, from their anemic offense that averages a league-low 11.2 points per game to their inability to avoid third downs, of which they have reached their down on 58.4 percent of their offensive sets.
The Cowboys defense will throw everything it has at rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito to rattle him and force a few turnovers where possible. The Cowboys have won 12 of their last 13 games against the Giants when New York has turned the ball over, so if DeVito doesn't play a turnover-free game, that, among other things, could spell trouble for the Giants in this one.
Prediction
I'd like to think this game won't be as ugly as the Week 1 40-0 debacle. And it might not even be as bad as the oddsmakers predict. That said, the Giants are vastly understaffed and reeling to the point where it's hard to fathom how this team will keep up with the Cowboys. Stranger things have happened, of course, but if we're being realistic, the Cowboys have the upper hand in this one.
