Giants Release WR Cole Beasley from Practice Squad

The New York Giants are releasing veteran wide receiver Cole Beasley from the practice squad today, per NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo.

Beasley came out of retirement to sign with the Giants just before training camp. The 34-year-old veteran slot receiver was likely viewed as insurance in the event Wan'Dale Robinson, who was coming off ACL surgery, wasn't ready for the season.

Robinson ended up being cleared to return to action just before the start of the season, and Beasley, who had some leg issues during camp, was waived and then added to the practice squad, where he's been the entire season save for a four-week stint in which he was on the practice squad/IR list.

With the Giants seemingly leaning more toward their younger receivers--Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and Darius Slayton--it was hard to envision a path for Beasley to make it onto the roster unless there was a rash of injuries at the receiver position.

Beasley spent time with the Cowboys and the Bills, the latter with current Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who was the Bills offensive coordinator. Beasley has 556 catches for 5,744 yards and 34 touchdowns for his career.

There was no immediate word as to whether Beasley planned to go back into retirement or pursue an opportunity with another team.
