On Tuesday, during a video call with reporters, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll declined to name a starting quarterback for their weekend game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Daboll, who is coming out of the team's Week 13 bye, wasted no time in naming rookie Tommy DeVito as the starter ahead of veteran Tyrod Taylor, who at the time was coming off injured reserve, said that he and his staff would discuss which of DeVito and Taylor would get the nod on Sunday as the Giants look to close out a disappointing 2023 season with two home games.

Daboll also didn't waste any time naming DeVito, the starting quarterback, following the team's Week 15 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The door opened for a potential quarterback debated on Monday when Daboll pulled DeVito, the starter against the Eagles, at halftime with the Giants down 20-3. Daboll said that in going to Taylor, he was looking to provide a spark to the team, which Taylor appeared to give them in the second half.

“I made that decision at halftime,” Daboll said. “Just felt we needed to do something to try to spark us. We were 1-for-8 on third down, 55 yards passing. That was a collective thing, though, for everybody.”

DeVito, who had gone 3-2 as a starter, finished his half of football, 9 of 16 for 55 yards, with no turnover. However, his average depth of target was just 1.5 yards, the second worst average behind the minus 1.8 yards he had against the Jets when he was pressed into action after Taylor suffered a rib cage injury.

Taylor finished 7 of 16 for 133 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His average depth of target was 16.1 yards.

Daboll hinted that he would make his choice known on Wednesday when the players return for practice.
