New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced that veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be the team's starter on Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Rams at MetLife Stadium.

Daboll turned to Taylor on Monday after halftime, the Giants down 20-3 against the Eagles behind rookie Tommy DeVito. The head coach told FOX sideline reporter that he was looking for a "spark" in the divisional game.

Tommy or Tyrod? Who is the Most Logical Answer?

While Taylor's numbers (7 of 16 for 133 yards, one touchdown, one interception) were slightly better than DeVito's (9 of 16 for 55 yards, no turnovers or touchdowns), Taylor was better able to move the offense, leading them on two touchdown drives in their 33-25 loss.

“I thought Ty did some good things in the second half of Philly, so I thought he earned the right to start this game," Daboll said. “Get ready for the Rams--really have nothing else to add."

While Daboll didn't go deeply into his reasons for choosing Taylor, with the Giants now officially eliminated from the playoffs, Daboll, in trying to keep the players focused on these last two games regardless, made the decision that will likely accomplish that.

DeVito, who hadn't spoken with the media following Daboll's announcement--it's believed he'll speak after the team's walkthrough--took his benching during Monday's 33-25 loss to the Eagles like a pro.

“It is a business," he said. "It’s your job. I respect it. There’s no hard feelings one way or another. I was hoping Ty was going to go out there and ball, and we win the game. It’s nothing more than that.”

DeVito is under contract for next season, whereas Taylor is not, nor is he expected to be back. General manager Joe Schoen has already said that the team plans to address quarterback either through the draft or free agency in the off-season, as Daniel Jones, the incumbent whom Daboll already named as the team's starter for 2024, is recovering from a torn ACL that could take him up to the start of the 2024 season, depending on his recovery.

DeVito figures to get a lot of work during the spring and summer with Jones sidelined, regardless of whether the team brings in a rookie draft pick or a veteran.
