Jaguars Place Jamal Agnew on IR, Activate Parker Washington

The Jaguars have placed their star return man on IR.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed wide receiver/returner Jamal Agnew on injured reserve, which means they'll be without their top special teamed for at least the next four weeks.

Agnew injured his shoulder and ribs in last week's 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, leaving a void in the return game for the Jaguars' special teams unit.

Agnew will be replaced in Week 11 by rookie wide receiver Parker Washington, who stepped in for Agnew in Week 4 before sustaining his own knee injury in his NFL debut.

Washington can be expected to replace Agnew as punt returner in Week 11, with D'Ernest Johnson as the most likely Agnew replacement on kick returns.

Picked with the No. 185 pick in the sixth-round, Washington was a surprising draft weekend slide. Now, he will have a chance to make a rookie impact as the Jaguars make a push for the playoffs and an AFC South crown.

A four-star recruit in the 2020 class, Washington (5-foot-9, 204 pounds) was a three-year starter at Penn State, appearing in 32 games and starting 24. In three years, Washington caught 146 passes for 1,920 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Washington started all nine games in 2020, being named a freshman All-American as he caught 36 passes for 489 yards and six touchdowns. He appeared in 13 games in 2021, starting seven and catching 64 passes for 820 yards and four touchdowns.

Washington returned in 2022, appearing in 10 games and starting eight as he led the team in receiving with 46 catches for 611 yards and two touchdowns.
