Report: Josh Allen's Camp Upset With Jaguars GM Trent Baalke

Trent Baalke made it clear on Thursday that Josh Allen would be a Jaguar in 2024. Ultimately, it seems like that was Allen's first time hearing it, too.

On Thursday, Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke told local media that pass-rusher Josh Allen would be a Jaguar in 2024 -- no matter what.

As it turns out, Allen might have been hearing the news for the first time himself, too, considering Baalke also admitted that contract negotiations with Allen have yet to begin.

According to a report from ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio, Baalke's comments on Thursday rubbed Allen's camp the wrong way.

"That remark didn’t sit well with Allen and his representatives. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Allen’s camp is not happy that Baalke would take time to talk to the media about Allen before taking time to Allen or his agent about Allen," Florio said.

"Allen’s camp has been ready, willing, and waiting to engage in negotiations."

As we have reported for the past several months, the expectation is for the Jaguars to ultimately use the franchise tag on Allen and then proceed to attempt to sign a long-term extension.

Over the last two years, the Jaguars have used the franchise tag on Cam Robinson and Evan Engram before eventually signing each player to a multi-year extension before the summer deadline.

“I’m not going to commit to anything right now relative to the franchise tag. But at the same token, Josh Allen is going to be a Jaguar next year," Baalke said.

In 17 games this year, Allen recorded 17.5 sacks, a career-high 33 quarterback hits, a career-high 17 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Allen also finished No. 5 among all EDGE players in pressures and No. 7 in win-rate.

“Yeah, I’d love to say yes. I know Josh wants to be here, I know we want him here. Can we come to a number that works for everybody? That’s the key," Baalke said on Thursday.

"I respect that. Like I said last year with Evan’s (Engram) situation, you got to respect these guys that put themselves in this position. They work hard, they deserve to make good money. What that good means to them could be different than what it means to us. We just got to come together, sit down at the table and work things out.”
