Doug Marrone Provides Bye Week Injury Update on Myles Jack, Several Others

Jaguars HC Doug Marrone gave updates on several injured players ahead of the continuation of the team's bye week, and it looks like the team has a good shot to get its top defender back on the field.

When it comes to injury-riddled squads in the NFL, every team says the same thing: just get to the bye week. This year, the Jacksonville Jaguars are no different.

The 1-6 Jaguars are entering their Week 8 bye with a multitude of injuries up and down the roster, including several to key starters on each side of the ball. On Tuesday, head coach Doug Marrone laid out where the team is on some of those injuries.

In an effort to make it smoother to digest the information, we will break it down player-by-player in terms of the update Marrone provided.

Myles Jack

Jacksonville's best player this season and arguably the league's best linebacker when he has been healthy, Myles Jack has battled an ankle injury over the course of the last month, leaving Week 4 with the injury, missing Weeks 5 and 7, and also leaving Week 6. But on Tuesday, Marrone gave a somewhat optimistic update on his status.

"Myles [Jack] is still recovering. I think we should have him back. Next week, I’ll know more," Marrone said.

Chris Thompson

The Jaguars' No. 2 running back all season, Chris Thompson missed his first game of the season in Week 7 after being placed on the team's Reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday. He is still on the COVID-19 list but Marrone indicated he has made progress.

"Chris is back in the facility, Chris Thompson. He’s back in the facility. He has to go through some of the protocol workouts to get back, so that will be fine," Marrone said.

Dede Westbrook

Dede Westbrook was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury on Monday after having to be carted off of the field vs. the Chargers in Week 7. Marrone didn't go into the specifics of his injury other than noting it was a non-contact injury.

"Dede [Westbrook] obviously, he went on IR and that’s always tough to have an injury like that, noncontact injury, and you do that. He’s worked hard and he was getting ready coming back and being able to help, so I think that’s tough. That’s tough for anyone that gets hurt. We’ve had a lot of those players, just like Leon [Jacobs] and the guys that have been here for a while and have worked hard, so that’s always tough," Marrone said.

Devine Ozigbo

Devine Ozigbo missed the first six games of this season with a hamstring injury before returning in Week 7. Ozigbo played 14 snaps on special teams on Sunday but left the game with a hamstring injury on the same leg.

"Devine [Ozigbo] came back, he reinjured the same leg, same injury there just in a different spot so we’ll see how that is," Marrone said.

Sidney Jones, Tyler Eifert, A.J. Cann

Marrone didn't have much to add on any of these players other than general updates. Tyler Eifert (neck) and A.J. Cann (shoulder) both missed Sunday's game, while Sidney Jones left the game with an injury after just 14 snaps.

"I think Sidney Jones, we’ll see how he’s feeling so I’ll have a better idea in a couple days. I think [Tyler] Eifert, we expect him to be back. A.J. Cann, we expect to be back."

Brandon Linder

Linder didn't leave Sunday's game at any point but he evidently sustained some kind of injury, according to Marrone. He already missed a few games earlier this year with a knee injury.

Brandon [Linder] finished the game, so it was tough for him. He’s feeling sore so I think that will be week to week, we’ll see how he goes," Marrone said.

Dakota Allen

Weak side linebacker Dakota Allen has been Jacksonville's first choice every time that Myles Jack has been off the field, but he left Sunday's game after five plays with an ankle injury, something he has battled with this year at times.

"Dakota [Allen], we’ll see how he progresses, basically he has the same ankle [injury] that he’s had before," Marrone said.
