Ex-Jaguars DB Sergio Brown Taken Into Custody Following Alleged Murder of Mother

Former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive back Sergio Brown is officially in police custody following the death of his mother a month ago.
"Former NFL player Sergio Brown, who had been missing since his mother’s death last month, was taken into custody on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for first-degree murder in her killing, police said in a statement," CNN reported.
Brown was arrested Tuesday while reentering the United States from Mexico after a warrant for first-degree murder was issued, the Maywood Police Department said.
Brown appeared in 15 games for the Jaguars in 2015, starting four. He also played for the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and Indianapolis Colts in a career that spanned seven seasons. Brown played collegiately at Notre Dame and signed with the Patriots as a undrafted free agent.
"Relatives told officers Saturday in Maywood that they could not find Sergio Brown, 35, or Myrtle Brown, police said," the Associated Press wrote last month.
"Authorities searched Monday for former NFL player Sergio Brown after his 73-year-old mother's body was found near a creek behind her suburban Chicago home. Officers found Myrtle Brown's body, and a medical examiner determined Sunday that she had been injured during an assault."
“We’re going to find out what happened because it’s not normal for my sister to not answer her phone, not to respond to text messages. People have been reaching out to her since Friday. No one was able to reach her,” Myrtle Brown's sister Sheila Simmons told Chicago's WGN last month. “Now, I got the call this morning saying that she’s missing, so immediately I came out here and find out my sister is dead.”
