After a lengthy NFL career that included stops with the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and Jacksonville Jaguars, defensive tackle Corey Peters has decided to hang up the cleats.

Peters took to his Instagram account to shed light on the news, expressing gratitude for the many positives that the game of football gave to him and the people along the way.

“I must first and foremost give thanks to God for the talent he has given me, the opportunities he has provided for me,” Peters wrote. “For always being by my side throughout this journey, which has at times been incredibly difficult.”

“A special thank you to the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and Jacksonville Jaguars for being a vital part of making my dreams come true,” Peters continued. “I feel privileged to have lined up next to my teammates. My most valuable possession is the memories we’ve created together. Please know that I am your brother for life and that it was an immense privilege to compete with you.”

Peters spent his last season with the Jags, emerging as a veteran presence for a defensive line rotation that contained a mixture of young and veteran talent. Following the victory over the Tennessee Titans in the 2022 regular season finale, defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell shed light on just how important Peters was to the unit.

“When you look at that D-line room, you have a mixture of young guys and old guys,” Caldwell said. “Corey coming in, stepping in, just showing how to be a true professional at that position, understanding how to attack linemen, how to hone your techniques weekly, he does a great job. It helps DaVon (DT DaVon Hamilton) because he’s seeing someone that’s done it for a long time and done it at a really high level, and it’s helped him increase his play.”

Peters finished his NFL career with 336 total tackles, 19 sacks, 55 tackles for loss, 40 quarterback hits, three fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown), 10 defended passes, and one interception in 164 career games.
