Will Richardson and Bradley Chubb have gone from teammates to opponents in the NFL.

If Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Will Richardson enters the Jaguars (1-2) game against the Denver Broncos (0-3) at Mile High Stadium, he will be facing a defense that features a blast from his past — defensive end Bradley Chubb, a former NC State teammate who Richardson, a college right tackle, knows quite well.

Richardson and Chubb both joined the NC State football team in 2014 and they left the team at the same time as well, each entering the 2018 NFL draft and being selected by the Jaguars and Broncos respectively. During their four seasons together in college, the two had constant battles in practice, something Richardson still values today.

"I mean, me and Chubb, we were all about football. Whenever we stepped on the field, we knew that we were going to have a battle with each other. And that’s for all four years. From him going to linebacker to defensive line, I faced him a lot," Richardson told JaguarMaven this week.

Richardson said many of the things that made Chubb an elite player at NC State (20 sacks in final two seasons of college) are the same things that have made him a dominant NFL player (12 sacks as a rookie).

"The man, his love for football is amazing. His passion for football and his drive to want to be great is absolutely amazing," Richardson said.

"Obviously last year he proved that not only will he be one of the greats, but he is one of the best at doing what he does now. He will only continue to get better and I wish him the best all the time."

On Wednesday, Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone called Chubb one of the most dangerous EDGE players his team is going to see all season. For Richardson, he is one of the few players in the NFL who has been on the right side of Chubb's dominance.

"I’ve seen it. I have been on the sideline after an offensive possession and literally watched this man go out there and get 3 TFLs and now the offense is in 3rd and 26. And literally we would go back and look at film and it is like ‘Wow, this man just got 3 TFLs in three plays,'" Richardson said.

Richardson has been shifted back to his training camp position of right guard after starting at left tackle for the Jaguars first two games, so if he does play it is unlikely he will match up against Chubb unless Chubb is shifted to the interior in some defensive packages.

So while Richardson is unlikely to see his formet teammate in any one-on-one situations, he is still looking forward to the chance of sharing the field with Chubb again. Even though this time, they will be sharing it as opposing NFL players.

"We will always be brothers. We were a band of brothers at NC State. But on the field (on Sunday), we’re not. But at the same time, as far has he goes, he is my brother for life."
