Jaguars vs. Texans: Top Houston CB Derek Stingley Suffers Hamstring Injury

The Jacksonville Jaguars may be getting some injury luck of their own this Sunday.
With the Houston Texans set to visit EverBank Stadium in Week 3, the Jaguars' already-hobbled AFC South rival looks like they will be without top cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., last year's No. 3 overall pick.
According to multiple reports, Stingley sustained a hamstring injury in practice this week and could be placed on injured reserve as a result.
The Jaguars targeted Stingley nine times in Week 6 last year, with Stingley allowed six catches for 97 yards. He also intercepted Trevor Lawrence in the end-zone, though, the cherry on top of the worst scoring output the Jaguars have ever had in 21 games under head coach Doug Pederson.
Stingley has been targeted five times this year, allowing three catches on 68 yards.
"Stingley, who was injured during practice Wednesday, is the fourth starting Texans defensive back to suffer an injury this season," ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime said.
"Safety Jimmie Ward missed the first two games due to his hip. Safety Jalen Pitre bruised his lung in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens and did not play Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts. Nickel cornerback Tavierre Thomas broke his hand against the Colts, had surgery Tuesday and is out Sunday."
If Stingley doesn't play on Sunday, the Jaguars will face former cornerback Shaquill Griffin in his place.
The Jaguars will be looking for a bounce-back game from the offense and quarterback Trevor Lawrence after they scored just nine points against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. Without Stingley across from them, it just may be that much easier.
"I think he’s a type of guy that it bothers him when he or the team doesn’t play well. It bothers him and it bothers a lot of guys," Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said on Wednesday.
"We didn’t practice very well last week, it starts there in practice and being efficient. We’ve got to have good days coming up, but this team has been resilient that way and they seem to respond to each other and the kinds of adversity that we bring on ourselves.”
