Man Places $55K Bet on Jaguars To Win AFC South in 2023

The Jacksonville Jaguars have their fair share of believers in 2023, but not many have put their money where they mouth is to the extent that Grant Telford did this week.
Telford, the CEO and owner of Backyard Breaks, released a video this week where he shows himself placing a massive $55,000 bet on the Jaguars to win the AFC South in 2023.

The bet, done through BetMGM, would win Telford $36,666.65 at -150 odds. This would be a potentially massive payday if the Jaguars manage to win the AFC South for a consecutive season for the first time in franchise history.
The only other time the Jaguars won the AFC South and entered the next year as division favorites, the Jaguars fell apart at the seams. Jacksonville finished with a 5-11 record in 2018 after going 10-6 and winning the AFC South in 2017.
Now, though, the Jaguars are among the trendiest divisional champion picks as the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts pick top-4 in search for franchise quarterbacks and the Tennessee Titans rebuild their roster and salary cap.
"The good thing about that, first of all, it’s a lot easier to be the hunter than the hunted, right? As you get better and you become the hunted, the challenge gets harder. You’re going to get every team's best when they show up in Jacksonville," Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said at the end of the 2022 season.
"In the past, maybe they thought this was going to be an easy out, that’s no longer going to be the case. I think the last part of this season really prepared this young group to understand that there’s a real sense of urgency that goes into being a championship-caliber team. It just doesn’t happen. The players saw that, you really see it in the playoffs, but because we were playing playoff football for the last month of the season, it was evident to them just how much urgency there is starting on Monday. You don’t wait until Sunday to get excited about playing or get prepared to play. It starts on Monday and as they got to understand that better, we played better. That should carry over to next season for us.”
