Report: Gabe Davis Chose Jaguars Over Bears in Free Agency

The Chicago Bears attempted to reel in the former Buffalo Bills wide receiver.

The Jacksonville Jaguars made the first move on the receiver market in free agency, inking former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis to a three-year deal.

The Jaguars weren't the only team after Davis, though. According to Fox Sports' Henry McKenna, the Chicago Bears had a similar offer in place for Davis.

Davis ultimately chose the Jaguars, becoming the biggest fish among the Jaguars' busy first day of free agency.

The Jaguars signed Davis to a three-year deal worth $39 million, but the deal's max value could be as much as $50 million.

At $13 million average annual value, Davis is tied for No. 24 among annual value among all wide receivers. By signing in Jacksonville, Davis now reunites with Jaguars wide receiver Chad Hall, who coached Davis in the first three years of his career.

Adding Davis is an interesting move for the Jaguars considering the status of wide receiver Calvin Ridley is still in limbo. The Jaguars are still pushing to retain Ridley, though Davis could give them insurance in the event he doesn't.

Davis also makes things interesting with Zay Jones, who had a wasted 2023 season due to injuries. If the Jaguars were to cut Jones, they would save $$4,183,294. If he was a post-June 1st cut, they would save $7,735,294.

Davis, a fourth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of UCF, caught 163 passes for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns in four years in Buffalo. In 2024, he caught 45 passes for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. Davis never caught fewer than six touchdowns in a sea
