Jaguars players give back to local Jacksonville school and serve as role models during off day

The Jacksonville Jaguars players are given each Tuesday off during the season to recharge their batteries after going to battle just days prior. And only days after a 26-24 comeback victory over the Denver Broncos, Jaguars right guard Will Richardson, linebacker Austin Carlitro and other members of the organization used their days off to give back to the Jacksonville community.
Richardson spent Tuesday morning walking with several dozens students and teachers from Biltmore Elementary in Jacksonville, a walk "designed to promote the importance of being a role model for young students by walking with them to school and teaching them about pedestrian safety."
"It is amazing. If there was one thing that I could pick to go out and do in the community on every occasion, it would probably be something to do with kids. Because when I was growing up, I remember having celebrities around me, people who I really looked up to," Richardson said.
"I remember as a young kid you really look at those people and you take what they have to say. So it is not like someone else coming and saying it, it is somebody that you look up to and saying something. I try to get out and give my word to kids whenever I can."
Richardson and Calitro later joined Jacksonville's mascot and cheerleaders as they led the students in outdoor activities and team building games. They visted classroom from classroom and embraced the school children who look up to them as role models and hope to one day follow in their footsteps.
"It just feels good that I am in that position now that I can come and I can give back and people kind of look up to me," Richardson said.
Two days after the Jaguars offense ran 85 plays at Mile High Stadium, Richardson walked a mile alongside students who will carry the memory with them forever. And it was certainly less taxing than playing in a 10-minute drive in Denver, Richardson joked.
"But I did break a little sweat out there," he laughed. "It was all for the good though."
