One New York Jets player already graced the cover of an iconic sports magazine this spring when Sports Illustrated featured Sauce Gardner.

Could a Jet, say four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, be headed for the cover of the famed Madden video game next?

Using social media, gamemaker EA Sports teased the Madden '24 cover athlete announcement set for Wednesday, June 7 and the already-simmering speculation reached a boil.

In one example, @BfloFanatics, an account dedicated to Buffalo Bills coverage, reported that quarterback Josh Allen is the choice this year.

There has been no confirmation since that report, only a tweet from EA Sports stating their intention to unveil the cover this week.

Meanwhile, Bobby Kownack, an NFL digital content producer, named "five players who deserve consideration" and Rodgers made the list. The NFL.com article featured three "true contenders," one "pipe dream candidate" and one "time is a circle pick."

After featuring Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback Jalen Hurts, Minnesota Vikings' receiver Justin Jefferson and Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce as the most-deserving options, Kownack floated the idea of EA Sports going with 2023 Mr. Irrelevant (Desjuan Johnson) or the Jets' future Hall-of-Fame quarterback.

"When the Packers traded Brett Favre to the Jets in the summer of 2008, a mere five days before the release of Madden NFL 09, EA Sports had already issued millions of copies featuring the legendary gunslinger in a Green Bay jersey. The company had to scramble to provide a downloadable cover with Favre wearing his new threads. There wouldn't be that level of chaos now, but the Packers and Jets have already done all the leg work for déjà vu overload. Such a decision wouldn't be without merit, either. Rodgers is still only a season removed from winning a second consecutive MVP award and his fourth overall. ...."

Despite winning a Super Bowl and four MVP awards, Rodgers has never been chosen as the Madden cover model.

With the 39-year old quarterback landing in the media capital of the world, on a team expected to be a title contender, the time seems right for Rodgers to hold the honor.
