Jets Creep Toward Top 10 in Sports Illustrated's NFL Power Rankings

Robert Saleh's team stands higher than Steelers, Saints and Falcons

The New York Jets bumped their overall record over the .500 mark and jumped two spots in Sports Illustrated's NFL Power Rankings as a result.

Having returned to the position they occupied heading into the bye week, the Jets (4-3) currently rank No. 12 overall on the updated weekly list. After an idle Week 7, the Green & White temporarily slipped to the No. 14 spot but the post-bye win over the New York Giants has the Jets creeping back towards the Top 10.

The Jets sit in between the No. 11 Seattle Seahawks (5-2) and the No. 13 Cleveland Browns (4-3). The No. 7 Miami Dolphins are the highest-ranked AFC East member. The Philadelphia Eagles (7-1) are back in the No. 1 spot as the NFL's lone one-loss team. New York already owns two Top 10 victories, having beaten the Eagles and the No. 10 Buffalo Bills.

Gang Green is riding a three-game win streak in spite of offensive struggles. The Jets' offense managed only one touchdown for the third game in a row, recording 12 first downs and punting 11 times throughout a 13-10 overtime victory

"With regards to offense, we knew yesterday was going to be a low scoring game. Then you throw in the weather," said third-year head coach Robert Saleh on Monday in Florham Park. "The weather was much worse than I think people realized and I think it was hidden behind the fact that we do play on turf, so you don’t see grass and mud flying everywhere."

The Jets' next opponent carries the No. 16 overall ranking into MetLife Stadium for a Monday Night Football flash on November 6. The Los Angeles Chargers (3-4) rolled past Chicago in Week 8, but quarterback Justin Herbert's next assignment is a Gang Green defense that has limited Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts to a 3:8 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

LA is a 3.0-point road favorite over the Jets according to SI Sportsbook

Next week: vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The absurd range of emotion that took place between Zach Wilson taking one of the worst sacks of his career, to the Jets stopping the Giants on third-and-3, to a missed field goal, to Wilson conducting an incredible drive culminating in a last-second spike that could end up being his defining moment as a Jet, was such a joy to take in. I don’t care what people say. I love the Snoopy Bowl. Wary and banged up, the Jets now host the Chargers. Beating them at full strength would be the team’s most significant rabbit hat pull this season.
