Jets Owner Touts 'Biggest Event in Human History!'; Angry Fans Not Impressed

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson took to social media to tout MetLife Stadium hosting the 2026 World Cup final, but frustrated fans pushed back on his misdirected enthusiasm.

Not Aaron Rodgers. Not Robert Saleh. Not the 10th overall pick in April's NFL Draft. Not even Fireman Ed's irrationally enduring loyalty.

No, instead of any form of New York Jets optimism, team owner Woody Johnson took to social media on Wednesday to tout what he called "the biggest event in human history."

It did not go over well with long-suffering fans of his football team.

Johnson, who has owned the Jets since 2000, was regaling in New York/New Jersey's MetLife Stadium hosting the 2026 World Cup Final. Said Johnson on his social media:

"Hope you saw this! This will be the biggest event in human history, over 2+ billion viewers, that’s billions with a B. Summer of 2026."

Fans of the Jets - who haven't been to an AFC Championship Game since 2010 and whose 55-year absence from the Super Bowl is the second-longest in the NFL behind only the Detroit Lions (58) - were in no mood to celebrate the world's version of "football."

Responses to Johnson's post prompted topics ranging from "sell the team," to "replace your turf with natural grass now," to "hire Mike Vrabel."

Said one fan:

"I have zero interest in a soccer game but I look forward to big Jet games in December and January being played there."

If Johnson was trying to drum up support for his stadium's World Cup, it fell flat. It was also another reminder that Jets fans are long overdue for some success by what they consider their real football team.
