Jets' Offseason Receiver Plans Need New Route?

The New York Jets made it clear that the organization would be addressing the wide receiver position in free agency. After two trades and three signings, that market has since dwindled.

Are the New York Jets running out of time to bring in a quality second receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson on the outside?

After two days of free agency, and two major trades for players at the position, there's an argument to be made that is the case.

Following the Carolina Panthers acquiring Diontae Johnson for an essential pick-swap, Jerry Jeudy traded to Cleveland for late-round selections, and the free-agent signing of Darnell Mooney and Gabe Davis, the Jets are running out of names they can look to improve their passing attack in 2024.

This isn't to say that the team is in dire straights yet. The first two days of free agency do not make or break an organization. Other available free agents like Tyler Boyd, Odell Beckham Jr., and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown have yet to sign deals of their own.

There is also the trade market. While Johnson and Jeudy were two top names expected to be moved, with the ever-changing ways of the NFL offseason, a player could be made available for the right price later on. Could Tee Higgins' price in a trade lower in the coming weeks? How about Courtland Sutton?

A couple of names to watch over the last few weeks are the wide receivers for the Los Angeles Chargers, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Both could be available via trade or even in free agency should Los Angeles decide to save cap space in the immediate future. Both would be upgrades to what the Jets currently possess as well.

While New York has been relatively quiet in free agency to start, there are ways for the organization to improve at key positions over the coming weeks.

Of course, if they aren't proactive enough, they could lose out on players that would have immediately helped the roster in 2024.
