Two Jets Ruled Out for Sunday Night Football vs. Chiefs
The New York Jets will be without starting free safety Tony Adams and backup guard Wes Schweitzer for the second game in a row.
Addressing reporters prior to Friday's practice in Florham Park, head coach Robert Saleh said the hope is to get both players back next week.
"No promises, we'll see how things go over the weekend," said Saleh.
Adams and Schweitzer have been listed as DNPs on the official injury report all week ahead of the Sunday Night Football showdown against the Super Bowl LVII champion Kansas City Chiefs on October 1.
The former is dealing with a hamstring injury that he sustained in the second quarter of the Week 2 battle at Dallas.
"He’s [Adams] getting closer, we’re hoping to get him back next week," said Saleh.
Meanwhile, Schweitzer remains in concussion protocol. The interior offensive lineman suffered a head injury in practice leading up to the Week 3 game against New England.
"He [Schweitzer] made tremendous progress yesterday," said Saleh on Friday. "We're hopeful for next week, but he still has some hurdles he has to climb."
Prior to signing with the Jets in March, Schweitzer missed time during the 2022 season due to concussion issues. The versatile veteran provides necessary insurance for an offensive line that is currently in flux.
Adams won the starting free safety job during the preseason and made 10 tackles over 1.5 games before going down against the Cowboys. Third-year pro Ashtyn Davis started in place of Adams against the Patriots as the Jets came out in a three-safety set.
For the Chiefs, head coach Andy Reid revealed that linebacker Nick Bolton (ankle) and cornerback Jaylen Watson (shoulder) will be held out of Sunday's game at MetLife Stadium. Here's more from Jordan Foote of Arrowhead Report in the Chiefs' injury front.
