WATCH: Jets kicker Chandler Catanzaro retires after woes in training camp and preseason

Jets kicker Chandler Catanzaro was already on the hot seat but he's instead decided to walk away from the game. Catanzaro is retiring from the NFL after a six-year career.

In his place, the Jets signed kicker Taylor Bertolet, who most recently played for the AAF's Salt Lake Stallions. Bertolet went 9-for-14 on field goals (4-for-7 on attempts from 50 yards or more) with the Stallions.

Catanzaro struggled mightily in training camp and missed two extra points in the Jets' preseason opener. This fueled speculation that the Jets would pursue other kickers to compete with Catanzaro.

Instead, the 28-year-old Catanzaro is calling it quits.

Catanzaro went undrafted out of Clemson in 2014 and spent his first three seasons with the Cardinals. Catanzaro made a career-long 60-yard field goal as a member of the Cardinals in 2016.

Catanzaro then made his first stint with the Jets in 2017. In his lone regular season with the Jets, Catanzaro converted 25 of his 30 field goals (including one for a team-record 57 yards) and was a perfect 29-of-29 on extra points.

Catanzaro split last season between the Buccaneers and Panthers, finishing 16-for-20 on field goals and 7-for-8 on extra points.

For his career, Catanzaro was 119-for-142 on field goals and 182-for-196 on extra points.
