Maurice Jones-Drew spent nearly a decade in the NFL as a running back and made the Pro Bowl three times, so his insight is certainly savvy about the position.

Jones-Drew recently ranked all 32 starting running backs and Le'Veon Bell is near the top of the list. Jones-Drew, now an analyst for NFL.com, ranked Bell as the No. 3 running back in the league, behind only the Giants' Saquon Barkley and Saints' Alvin Kamara.

Jones-Drew believes the Jets adding Bell was the best running back acquisition in free agency.

“It's going to be weird to see Le'Veon Bell donning green this season. Real weird,” Jones-Drew said. “Of all the running backs who switched teams this offseason, no move was bigger than Bell's, as he signed with the New York Jets in free agency after not playing a single snap during his contract dispute with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018.”

Bell, a three-time Pro Bowl running back, feels that the year off has his body in the best shape of his life, according to New York Jets.com. Bell participated in the Jets' mandatory minicamp in June and is thrilled to get to work for the upcoming training camp next week.

In 2017, Bell's most recent full season, the versatile threat amassed 321 carries, 1,291 rushing yards, nine rushing touchdowns, while also tallying 85 receptions, 655 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Jones-Drew is a big-time advocate of Bell's capabilities and knows Jets coach Adam Gase will deploy him in many effective sets.

“Looking forward to seeing Bell back on the field after a year off,” Jones-Drew said. “With positive reports on Bell coming out of Jets' minicamp, I'm expecting the fresh veteran back to be a nightmare for defenses...Adam Gase should be licking his chops as we speak.”

Once he shakes off the rust, Bell is going to be a major force for the Jets and a handful for the opposition this season.
