WATCH: Stephen A. Smith slams Jets' Le'Veon Bell for 'opening his mouth' on social media

In light of Le'Veon Bell's Instagram video decrying those critical of his off the field lifestyle, Stephen A. Smith obviously chimed in with an impassioned opinion. Spoiler alert: his stance isn't going to sit well with Jets fans.
On First Take, the ESPN analyst expressed disappointment not about the three-time Pro Bowl running back's opinion but rather the mere fact he voiced it on social media.

"Le'Veon Bell, the words that he uttered out of his mouth, was not wrong. But he was wrong for saying it," Smith said. "I have a problem with him opening his mouth."
Bell is fed up with the naysayers complaining about how he spends his time away from football. The Jets running back is active in the studio as a rapper and on the court playing basketball.
In the Instagram video, Bell candidly dismisses the notion that he doesn't take his football career seriously.

“I’m tired of social media s–t, I’m tired everybody telling me, ‘Oh, Le’Veon, you not focused. You only wanna make music. You wanna play basketball. You do everything besides play football,'” Bell said. “Let me tell you all something. I know you’ve got a favorite person, a favorite athlete, your mom, your dad, whatever. Somebody works at Target. You think when they work from 9 to 5, they go home and all they’re worried about is putting f–king s–t on the shelves? You think Bron is waking up, and he ain’t have no Taco Tuesdays? Bron don’t have Taco Tuesdays, you think he’s hoopin’ all day? You think Beyoncé is waking up singing all day? She don’t go to work, she don’t act? She don’t do nothing else with her kids? She’s waking up singing?”
The Jets inked Bell to a four-year, $52.5 million contract in March after he sat out the entire 2018 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a contract dispute.
Smith deems Bell's contract with the Jets, which includes $35 million guaranteed, as "decent numbers but clearly below of what he was targeting."
"Le'Veon Bell, the last time we saw him, was in the Pittsburgh Steelers uniform the season before last, which was 2017 to be exact. The man had 321 carries. He had 85 receptions. That's 406 touches, okay?" Smith said. "That's why he wanted higher numbers to be a hybrid guy. He thought he was worthy of more than he actually ended up getting."
Smith cites Bell's history of suspensions and injuries as causes for concern. Bell was suspended for DUI and marijuana possession charges in 2015 and for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy in 2016. Bell has dealt with foot and MCL injuries during his career.
Bell has been vigorously working out with his private trainer in South Florida this offseason but it appears that didn't appease Smith.
"It's about dependability and reliability. What are you doing off the field? How are you conducting yourself? What kind of standard are you setting?" Smith said. "Because guess what? There are other people that's going to come behind that want your money."
The reality is that only Bell himself knows how motivated he is. Everyone else's opinion, either from analysts or people on social media, is mere conjecture to fill the content gap prior to actual games.
Bell will take the first steps in attempting to silence his critics when training camp gets underway this week. Best believe if Bell plays to his potential this season, this will be all be long forgotten.
