Madden 20 isn't impressed with Sam Darnold but NFL.com is much more optimistic when it comes to the second-year Jets quarterback.

The creators of Madden stunningly gave Darnold a 74 rating and have 27 quarterbacks ranked ahead of him. However, NFL.com reporter Marc Sessler sees great things ahead for Darnold in Year 2.

Sessler compiled a list of one first-time Pro Bowler for each team and he selected Darnold from the Jets

Here's why Sessler is so high on Darnold heading into the 2019 season:

“Not unlike Browns fans wearing Baker Mayfield jerseys, hanging Baker Mayfield posters on their walls and drinking gleefully from Baker Mayfield coffee cups, Jets faithful finally have a rising sun to wake up to each morning,” Sessler wrote. “Sam Darnold is poised to make a serious second-year leap, with Le'Veon Bell at his disposal and just enough talent at the receiver position. Limiting turnovers will help, but the Darnold we witnessed in the final month of last season was uber-promising. Playing in a ponderously conservative offense as a rookie, Darnold now finds himself with a challenging, creative, alpha-male spirit-guide in Adam Gase. The future is aglow.”

Sessler makes a lot of great points about what's working in Darnold's favor. The addition of new weapons such as Bell and Jamison Crowder will help Darnold tremendously in his development. The wide-open nature of Gase's offense will also expedite Darnold's decision making and maturation.

As a rookie, Darnold amassed 2,865 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while completing 57.7 percent of his passes. Darnold is poised to take his game to the next level under Gase.

“I think Coach Gase is going to give me some freedom,” Darnold said to New York Jets.com. “I don't want to stand up here and say he's going to give me the keys necessarily, but I definitely he's going to give me the freedom to if I see something to go with my instincts and trust it. But if I'm not sure, just roll with the play that he gave me and let’s go. I think that's kind of the attitude of this offense and I'm super excited about it.”

Jets fans should be equally excited about Darnold. If Darnold masters Gase's system, a Pro Bowl selection and more importantly a trip to the postseason could definitely be in the works.
