'It Takes More': Brock Wright Reveals Lions 2024 Motto

Brock Wright waited a long while to find out he was returning to Lions!

The Detroit Lions roster understands it will not be easy to find their way back to the NFC Championship and/or beyond this upcoming season.

Tight end Brock Wright, who revealed he did not find out he was returning to the Lions until 2.5 hours before the official deadline, expressed he gained confidence knowing the 49ers had strong interest in signing him and with the decision Detroit's front office made to bring him back.

“Yeah, for sure. That goes both ways, that’s how we are in Detroit now too. We’ve kind of been talking that the motto this next year is, ‘It takes more.’ So, I think everyone will have to step up their game," said Wright. "But yeah, it definitely brings confidence. I think everyone on our team should be confident knowing that we have the experience of being there now. Looking forward to carrying that over to next year.”

Wright, 25, was an undrafted free agent who has worked his way to become one of the better blocking tight ends on Detroit's roster.

After speaking with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson following the conclusion of the 2023 season, Wright felt he had made the correct decision to join Detroit after going undrafted back in 2021.

When the 49ers offered a three-year, $12 million contract, the talented tight end experienced a level of stress wondering about his playing future and if he would be forced to find a place to reside in California.

Now that he has earned an extension, Wright acknowledged being proud of his effort to remain in the NFL, especially after underwhelming collegiate stats.

"I think it gives you a chip on your shoulder. I mean, I'm proud of it. Someone told me this stat a few years ago that a third of the league is made up of UDFAs," Wright said. "I think that's a testament to kind of the work ethic it takes to get a job in the league and once you are there you kind of know that's what it takes to maintain it. I'm definitely proud of that."
