How to Watch Lions vs. Giants: Time, Channel, Streaming Options
The Detroit Lions will have their first opportunity to observe members of their young roster in live preseason game action, when Dan Campbell leads his team against the New York Giants Friday evening at Ford Field.
While many of the team's starters are expected to rest, players vying for spots on the 53-man roster will be given every opportunity to make their case to the coaching staff and front office, based on their play over the next three games.
Many of the veterans and established members of the roster saw a high volume of work during the joint practices, indicating they will not see the field all that much in the preseason opener.
"That’s kind of the point is get real good work, two days, high intensity, a lot of density in there as well," Campbell said. "I mean, they hit us on some tempo offensively yesterday, which is great for our guys. I mean, that gets on you. So it's really good work."

Detroit's joint practices showcased to the NFL media and fans observing just how much energy and competitiveness Dan Campbell's roster possesses.
After winning a rep or succeeding, Lions teammates would often be near to celebrate.
“I think that’s who they are. I’m who I am and that’s who they are," said Campbell, when asked if he coaches energy in his roster. "So, I don’t feel like I have to preach high energy. I’m more, I want us to focus on the details of what we do and the discipline as much as possible and then let them go play. I feel like Brad (Holmes) has done that with who he’s acquired and who we’ve acquired. You get the right guys you don’t have to preach energy, they come with their own.”
