Detroit Lions Waive RB Mohamed Ibrahim, Sign Safety Scott Nelson

Lions announce roster moves after preseason loss to Jaguars.

The Detroit Lions announced a pair of roster moves after their preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mohamed Ibrahim, who gained popularity throughout his first NFL training camp, was waived.

While the talented running back went undrafted, the team signed the former Big Ten running back to a $100,000 guaranteed deal.

Detroit's battle for the third running back spot was expected to be quite close, with Craig Reynolds and Jermar Jefferson vying to play behind David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Early at camp, many expected Justin Jackson to secure the third-string job, but his unexpected retirement has left the competition still up in the air.

The team added Benny Snell and Devine Ozigbo following the former Chargers back's retirement.

Both Snell and Ozigbo are expected to be still in the running for a spot, but their special teams contributions will be evaluated, as well.

Both played on special teams against the Jaguars in a Week 2 preseason loss at Ford Field.

In a corresponding move, safety Scott Nelson was signed to the roster.

During his collegiate career at Wisconsin, Nelson recorded 127 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, one sack, 16 pass breakups and four interceptions.

Nelson, 23, stands in at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds. He spent the 2022 offseason and preseason with the Seattle Seahawks
