Colts vs. Patriots Prediction, Odds, Spread, Trends for NFL Preseason Week 1

In this story:
The Indianapolis Colts and New England Patriots faced each other in a joint practice this week, and now they'll meet each other in preseason action when they open their exhibition schedule on Thursday.
Neither team is expecting to play their starting quarterbacks. Daniel Jones will rest for the Colts, and Drake Maye will remain sidelined for the Patriots. Most of the starters will remain on the bench after getting their reps in during the joint practice.
That'll make deciding who to bet on to win this game a tough challenge, but it's one I'm ready to take on.

Colts vs. Patriots Preseason Betting Trends
- Shane Steichen is 5-4 straight up and 5-4 against the spread in the preseason as a head coach
- Mike Vrabel is 9-8 straight up and 7-8-2 against the spread in the preseason as a head coach
Colts vs. Patriots Key Player to Watch
- Anthony Richardson, QB - Indianapolis Colts
With Jones sidelined for this preseason game, Anthony Richardson will get the start for the Colts at quarterback. His NFL career has not gone as well as expected after being selected fourth overall in the 2023 draft. He has started just 15 games since then, going 8-7 while completing only 50.6% of passes for 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. His career depends on a strong preseason performance.
Colts vs. Patriots Prediction and Best Bet
Both coaches in this game have around a .500 record in the preseason, and they also both plan on resting most of their starters, which leaves me to lean on the depth of the Patriots roster when it comes to deciding which side to bet on.
The Patriots have young talent behind their roster and have the better backup quarterback in Tommy DeVito over Anthony Richardson of the Colts. Many of their backup receivers, who will see the field plenty on Thursday, served as starters for them last year, so they should have no issue producing against this Colts team.
I'll take the points with the Patriots at home.
