Report: Justin Fields Set to Return against Lions

Lions could face Justin Fields at Ford Field.

The Detroit Lions' defense will be seeking to rebound quickly after a disappointing performance against the Los Angeles Chargers.

According to the NFL Network, Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is set to make his return from a dislocated thumb against the Lions

Barring any setbacks at practice this week, the mobile quarterback will be seeking to lead the Bears' offense against a defense that has struggled against quarterbacks that can extend plays.

Dan Campbell noted this week, "We’ve got our hands full, man. We’ve got to put it together here.”

Fields has missed the last month of the season, as backup Tyson Bagent has been able to lead the Bears to a 2-2 record.

Fields, a former first-round pick and product of Ohio State, is 1-2 against the Lions.

In January of 2023, the last meeting between the NFC rivals, Detroit was able to secure a 41-10 victory.

Fields has posted a 73.3 passer rating, and has gone 30-of-58 for 451 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Brock Wright draws praise from Dan Campbell

Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta has drawn a significant amount of praise this season, but Brock Wright is an under-the-radar player that has earned the trust of the coaching staff.

“We talk about invest in reliability, right? He’s an investment, because this guy is as reliable as they get," said Campbell. "And, you’re right, he just kind of -- sometimes, he just flies under the radar, because he does all the dirty work nobody ever really sees. But, man, he showed up in the run game yesterday, he had a couple protections in the backside we had talked about. You mention to him, ‘Hey, if they just happen to bring this, you need to stay in and block it.' He did that. He didn’t miss a beat, and you only have to tell him something once."

Wright was rewarded for his efforts against the Chargers, as he secured a 25-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. It gave Detroit a 38-31 lead at the time.

"And then, man, here’s your one opportunity, right, on the pop pass and the worse thing that could happen, this defender kind of loops out, he was able to maneuver through it, set his angle and man, he’s just a steady, reliable piece for us," Campbell explained. "There’s a lot of trust. I can tell you between the coaches and his teammates, there’s a tremendous amount of trust with that player. They know he’s going to do his job.”
