Detroit Lions Claim DT Bruce Hector Off Waivers

After defensive lineman Brian Price was placed on the reserve/retired list on Tuesday morning, the Detroit Lions had two remaining roster positions to fill, prior to the start of training camp at their Allen Park practice facility.
On Tuesday afternoon, one of those roster spots was filled, as the NFL Network reported that the Lions claimed defensive tackle Bruce Hector off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans.
Over the course of his collegiate career at South Florida, the inexperienced defensive lineman recorded 90 total tackles (60 solo), 28 tackles for loss and 18 sacks.
As a senior, Hector secured 38 tackles -- 13 for loss -- seven sacks, to go along with a forced fumble and one pass defensed. He earned second-team All-AAC honors.
Hector signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2018.
He made his NFL debut in the season-opener against the Atlanta Falcons.
In August of 2019, Hector was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for safety Rudy Ford, but was waived during final roster cuts. He has also had stops with the Panthers and Titans.
In his short career, he has recorded two total tackles and a half sack.
Hector will likely be in competition for reps in training camp with rookie Levi Onwuzurike, as well as Da’Shawn Hand, Jashon Cornell and Kevin Strong.
