One of the most memorable plays from the Green Bay Packers’ 7-1 start was Aaron Rodgers’ scrambling touchdown pass to Jamaal Williams.

“I was posting up and doing the vintage post-up there,” tight end Jimmy Graham said on Friday. “When he first let go of the ball, the trajectory was like, ‘That ball’s kind of high.’ Sure enough, I think he saw him late scrambling and he just put a little extra on it and it fell right in the basket. Pretty unbelievable play, obviously.”

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, as the play unfolded, believed Rodgers was throwing the ball away. Instead, Williams made a catch in the back corner of the end zone.

“It was pretty unique, especially the reaction of all of us,” Hackett said on Thursday. “We thought he was throwing it away. It’s that idea of throwing it away and then, ‘Oh, we scored!’ It was a pretty incredible throw and catch. Jamaal did a great job scrambling right to the spot. Jimmy was trying to get open and Aaron put it where nobody else could get it except Jamaal. I thought that was really fun to watch.”

Here Graham’s full description of the play and what separates Aaron Rodgers from his previous quarterbacks, Drew Brees and Russell Wilson. Hint: It’s Rodgers’ arm strength.

“I’ve never seen anything like it, honestly, and I mean, it’s truly special. It really is,” Graham said.
