Panthers Release Two Players from 53-Man Roster

In this story:
Monday, the Carolina Panthers made some roster moves, creating two spots on the 53-man roster. The team released veteran safety Matthias Farley and tight end Jordan Matthews.
Farley appeared in five games for Carolina this season, primarily as a special teamer. He notched nine tackles and made one start. As for Matthews, he appeared in just one game which was in last week's loss against Chicago. It marked his first game in the NFL since 2021 due to recovering from an ACL.
Carolina also designated cornerback Jaycee Horn and tight end Ian Thomas to return from injured reserve, so the departures of Farley and Matthews could indicate that Horn and Thomas could be activated this week. Head coach Frank Reich has continuously stated that Horn has been making progress and is "close" to returning.
