NFL Insider Talks Interest in the Panthers Head Coaching Job

Carolina may not be at the bottom of the totem pole after all.

Does Bryce Young help or hurt the Carolina Panthers in their search for a new head coach? That was a question posed by Jesse Palmer on NFL Network to Mike Garafolo - someone who thought there would be little interest across the league.

In his response, he admitted that is not the case whatsoever.

"There is interest in it. I thought coming into the hiring cycle that this was going to be one of those I'm not touching that with a ten-foot pole because of what you're asking me about with Bryce Young. And also, David Tepper because a lot of people may be seeing this stuff from afar and not know exactly what he's like to work with. But there is reciprocal interest in this job, maybe a little bit more so than I thought there was going to be."

Young's rookie season was hampered by a lackluster offensive line, no semblance of a running game, and wide receiver group that vastly underperformed.

The two questions he did answer, however, were in regards to his size. Could he take the beating on a weekly basis? Will batted balls at the line of scrimmage be an issue? He passed both tests with flying colors.

If you get some protection and help around him, Young can still develop into that franchise quarterback the Panthers have been longing for.

Carolina plans to interview interim head coach Chris Tabor and has submitted requests for Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith, Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, and Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales.
