In this story:

Carolina Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young just finished a challenging first season in the NFL dealing with all sorts of drama from constant change in play-calling duties, a coaching change mid-season, a struggling offensive line and much more.

All that being said, it was more the situation than it was the quarterback. Had the Panthers went with any other quarterback at No. 1 overall, it would have been much of the same story.

ESPN's David Newton echoed a similar sentiment in a recent re-draft of the 2023 class and instead, took C.J. Stroud with the top pick.

"I'm not saying Stroud would have done much better than Young behind the Carolina offensive line that allowed Young to be sacked a team-record 62 times and with a receiving corps that was average at best. Young in many ways best fit what then-coach Frank Reich envisioned for his offense. But it's hard to deny the impressive numbers (23 touchdown passes to only five interceptions, 63.9% completion percentage) and poise Stroud showed in leading the Texans to the playoffs. Young could still prove to be a special player, but Stroud has already shown he is one."

In this ESPN re-draft, Young didn't even go in the top ten, slipping to the Tennessee Titans at No. 11.
