BREAKING: Sam Darnold to Sign with New Team

Carolina has to go in a different direction for their veteran QB.

Another quarterback is off the board in free agency and this time, it's former Carolina starter Sam Darnold. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Darnold is in agreement on a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

Carolina acquired Darnold from the New York Jets in April of 2021 in exchange for a 2021 6th round pick, 2022 2nd round pick, and a 2022 4th round pick.

In two years with the Panthers, Darnold threw 3,670 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He had a really bad first year with the team, some of which could be attributed to poor offensive line play. In six starts this past season, Darnold looked more comfortable running the offense and made better decisions. He went 4-2 in those six starts throwing for 1,143 yards, seven touchdowns, and three picks.

According to David Newton of ESPN, the Panthers had preliminary talks with Darnold but now, Carolina will have to look elsewhere for its veteran/bridge quarterback.
