In this story:

Scott Fitterer and former GM Marty Hurney have invested a lot of resources into improving the Carolina Panthers' secondary.

A few years back, they took Donte Jackson in the second round, traded up into the second round in 2020 to select Jeremy Chinn, took Jaycee Horn 8th overall, traded for former first-rounder CJ Henderson, and signed veteran Xavier Woods and Vonn Bell.

Despite a lot of focus being placed on revamping and retooling the secondary, Pro Football Focus ranks them as the 21st-best secondary in the league.

"The Panthers' secondary has the pieces, with two first-round picks and three second-round picks, but they’ve not yet put it together in the NFL," writes John Kosko. "Horn came on strong in his second season and allowed just a 52.6 passer rating on throws into his coverage over the year. The free-agency signing of Bell will help, but the biggest change this team made was to bring in new head coach Frank Reich and his new staff."

Personally, I would put this group closer to being in the middle of the pack with room to move into the top 12 or so. Talent isn't the question. It's more about consistency from guys like CJ Henderson and Keith Taylor Jr. and the health of Donte Jackson and Jaycee Horn. If the top two guys can stay healthy for the entire season, this group is looked at much differently. That being said, it wouldn't hurt to add another veteran corner prior to training camp.
