In this story:

Following a 3-5-1 start to the 2022 season, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay made the decision to fire his head coach, Frank Reich after four plus seasons.

"It was a difficult decision to make," Irsay said at the time of the firing. "Made with great thought. It's a decision that gets cultivated over many months and years actually where you integrating when a time is right and when it isn't."

Reich had unfortunate luck, no pun intended, with the quarterback position during his time on the job having five quarterbacks in five years. Following Andrew Luck's retirement, the team turned to Jacoby Brissett, then to Philip Rivers, then to Carson Wentz, and finally to Matt Ryan.

Although the revolving door at quarterback played a big factor in the team's shortcomings, Reich believes it was actually the run game that had a lot to do with it. During his introductory press conference as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Reich was asked why he felt things went wrong in Indianapolis.

"I think what went wrong was in four years it was established that that team, we were running the ball well. Like we're going to do here. And as this year started out, the running game disappeared. And then we didn't get the ball vertically down the field and we ended up having some breakdowns. Now, that's on me as the head coach. I've got to get that right. The responsibility starts with me. When we don't reach our goals, it's under my leadership."
