How Soon Can the Panthers Become Super Bowl Contenders?

In this story:

A new era of football has arrived in Carolina and for the first time in years, it feels like the Panthers have a clear plan and path to becoming a Super Bowl contender.

Frank Reich assembled a top-notch coaching staff to help groom and develop the returning talent on the roster and to put their rookie quarterback, Bryce Young, in the best situation possible.

But just how soon can the Panthers make that leap to competing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl?

Obviously, much of this comes down to how fast Bryce Young can go from just a talented rookie quarterback to a star that can singlehandedly win you games. He doesn't necessarily need to morph into Jalen Hurts but he does need to have that ability to perform and execute in the clutch which the Panthers believe won't be an issue.

The NFC South is a pretty lousy division at the moment, so it won't take much for the Panthers to go from their 7-10 second place finish a year ago, to being crowned division champs. And I could make a strong argument that the Panthers could win the division this year despite Young being a rookie. With the defense that Carolina has built and the support of a strong running back duo of Miles Sanders and Chuba Hubbard, they'll be able to win games while Young is still 'figuring it out" so to speak.

But to assert themselves as a Super Bowl contender, the Panthers have a few positions they still need to solve and that takes time.

Young needs a go-to target at receiver who can dominate one side of the field. Can that be Terrace Marshall Jr.? Maybe Jonathan Mingo? Or is the answer not currently on the roster? I imagine they use this season to look at what they have internally before going out and making a move for a high profile name at the position.

Defensively, the most obvious need is a pass rusher to go opposite Brian Burns. Rookie DJ Johnson could be the guy but he feels like more of an edge setter. If this defense can field two elite pass rushers, they are well on their way.

The rest all comes down to roster management and development. The core pieces are already in place and that in itself is half the battle. Once you have the foundation set and you start winning games you create a window of opportunity.

When will that window open for Carolina?

This can all change based on the development pace of the young core but 2025 seems to be most ideal. This gets Young through his first two years and by that point, he should be headed for stardom. This also gives the front office two more offseasons to build on top of that foundation to make this roster a winner.
