Initial Thoughts + Grades on Miles Sanders to Carolina

In this story:

Wednesday evening, the Carolina Panthers agreed to a four-year deal with free agent running back Miles Sanders. How good of a move is this for Carolina? Here's what our staff thinks.

Schuyler Callihan: A+

I still believe bringing back D'Onta Foreman should be something the Panthers consider, but regardless this is a big-time addition to the offense. Yes, Foreman had a terrific second half of the season, but he was very hot and cold. Sanders brings consistency and can also be a factor out of the backfield as a receiver which will give the rookie quarterback a reliable safety blanket as a checkdown. Love this move for Carolina as it takes their ground game to the next level.

Matt Welch: A

Sanders is a solid back to give Carolina a nice one-two punch with whatever other back the Panthers put in the backfield. If that guy is Foreman, either guy can get touches and carry the load. If it’s Chuba Hubbard, Sanders can easily take the starting role and ignite the passing game. Sanders has proved serviceable and should continue to be that as long as he doesn’t have to shoulder the whole load.

Tyler Ball: B+

Miles Sanders is a skilled runner and has a great vision for finding the gap. He will be a welcomed addition to Carolina's run game after departing with McCaffery last season. Sanders is a quality find, but re-signing D'Onta Foreman would give them another weapon out of the backfield. They may not be done just yet.
