No Love for Frank Reich in Head Coaching Rankings

The 33rd Team isn't sold on Reich as a top coach in the NFL.

In this story:

Frank Reich is well-respected around the league and many including myself believe he is the right guy to turn the Carolina Panthers around.

During his first head coaching stint in Indianapolis, Reich compiled a record of 40-33-1 with two playoff appearances in five years. Considering the underwhelming quarterback play the Colts had during that stretch, it's impressive that Reich finished out in Indy with a winning record.

That said, there are still a few people that have their concerns with Reich, including Ross Tucker of The 33rd Team, who ranked the Panthers' head coach at No. 24 on his head coaching rankings

"Reich is a solid NFL coach, and I’m happy he gets a second chance with the Carolina Panthers after Jim Irsay reportedly forced him to bench Matt Ryan in favor of Sam Ehlinger even though the Indianapolis Colts were still in the race in the AFC North. The late-season collapse in 2021 is a bigger concern than anything that happened in 2022."

Reich ranks ahead of Robert Saleh (Jets), Todd Bowles (Buccaneers), Dennis Allen (Saints), Matt Eberflus (Bears), Josh McDaniels (Raiders), Shane Steichen (Colts), DeMeco Ryans (Texans), and Jonathan Gannon (Cardinals).

What is odd about this set of rankings is that Brian Daboll (8), Mike McDaniel (14), Dan Campbell (16), Arthur Smith (18), and Brandon Staley (20) all rank ahead of Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who checks in at No. 22. So, take that for what it's worth.
