There's 'A Lot to Clean Up' After Sloppy Day at the Office for Panthers' Offense

In this story:
Bryce Young finished Saturday's practice 7-of-15 throwing the ball, but it wasn't as bad as the numbers seem, at least for him.
Today was on the receivers. They failed to get separation and when they did, they struggled to hold onto the football. There were countless drops and it appeared that some of the depth of the routes weren't run correctly.
Many of Young's incompletions were good plays on the ball, throwaways, or passes in the back of the end zone where only his guy could make a play or no one could. But he's not completely excused from the blame. He threw a handful of passes a tad high in the end zone and threw one behind Spencer Brown over the middle of the field. These days are going to happen throughout training camp. If they don't, then you begin to worry about what's wrong with the defense. From my vantage point, it didn't seem as if Bryce forced any throws or made many bad decisions with where to go with the ball. He was just a little off and you can credit the defense for having a strong day in coverage.
"A lot of stuff to clean up on tape. The defense won the day today," Young said. "There's a lot of things that I got to do better. Just as a unit we have to do better. We take responsibility, accountability for that stuff. Obviously a lot of stuff on tape today that we got to go back and correct. But we have to put it in perspective. There's always going to be negatives and positives in camp. It's back and forth. We're going up against a great defense every single day and they definitely won the day today. We just got to be better tomorrow."
What's more alarming though was the amount of pre-snap penalties. I charted six false starts and one delay of game. Now, not all of these happened with the first-team but still, it's something that can't happen. You can live with holds, facemasks, etc. It's the pre-snap stuff that can kill a drive.
"Too many pre-snap penalties today," head coach Frank Reich stated. "I thought we started out decent on offense, but then the defense had a really good day today. Just got to keep things clean. I was excited about today. I thought our intensity was really good. We just can't fall into a lapse on offense. We've been having some good days, but today was not our best day offensively.
"It's just a discipline and focus thing. And honestly, we've been pretty good at camp. A little bit hotter today, a little bit more humid, we're in pads in day whatever so that's a great opportunity to work through that because we all know that's what it's going to be like on gameday. We're gonna be tired and we gotta be able to concentrate and work through that."
The good thing about training camp? The offense gets another crack at it tomorrow morning and maybe they can flip the script.
