AJ Brown's Cryptic Profile Photo Change Sparks Patriots Whispers

The Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver made a peculiar change to his social media on Thursday.

It's no secret in the NFL that the New England Patriots are a team that could benefit immensely from a new addition in their receiver room throughout this offseason. After finishing the 2023-24 tire fire of a year with a bottom three offensive unit in the league, bringing some fresh, talented names into the mix is critical for this roster's success moving forward.

And while the Patriots have yet to take a big swing on a wide receiver in the weeks through free agency or leading up to the NFL Draft, it seems that a few notable options could be on the table for New England to potentially make a move on.

Most recently for New England, Philadelphia Eagles WR AJ Brown has entered the mix as a name to keep an eye on... maybe.

Based on some detective work done on social media during Thursday afternoon, it seems Brown has not only followed Patriots' newly-signed Jacoby Brissett and KJ Osborn on his Instagram but also made his profile picture Tom Brady over on Twitter. Inevitably, it raised some eyebrows about what the future holds for the Eagles' wideout.

Brown finished his 2023 campaign with Philadelphia. appearing in all 17 games, posting 106 receptions for 1,456 yards on seven touchdowns. It was his second season since being with the Eagles, earning All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors in each.

When taking a peek at Brown's contract, the Eagles have him on his existing deal for the next three seasons worth $56 million, with a potential out in 2025. Based on the individual production showcased across his first two years in town alongside Jalen Hurts, it'd be a surprise to see Philadelphia pivot on the star receiver. However, based on his shocking draft-day trade exit from the Tennessee Titans in 2022, it's not totally out of the realm of imagination.n.

According to Sophie Weller of AtoZ Sports, when Patriots' de facto GM Eliot Wolf was asked about the idea of trading for a veteran receiver, he detailed that it's something the team has investigated for both pass catchers and other positions.

“Yeah, we've had conversations with teams about different scenarios," Wolf said. "Not just the receiver position but in other positions. So that's, that's definitely something that we’d be open to.”

Whether the answer is Brown, another top candidate like Brandon Aiyuk, or an addition down the draft, it's hard to expect the Patriots to remain complacent this time around in their hunt for offensive talent.

Keep an eye on how the Patriots approach the receiver room during next week's draft, as some significant changes could be in store.
