'Fire Bill Belichick!'? Dallas Cowboys Bury New England Patriots in Coach's Worst Loss Ever

ARLINGTON, Texas - The New England Patriots were deep into what would be the most lopsided loss in the legendary career of the brilliant Bill Belichick when a trio of vignettes from this 38-3 debacle on Sunday in NFL Week 4 here at AT&T Stadium created a sad framework for what is about to come

Late in the game, benched QB Mac Jones was spotted with an inappropriate grin on his face. Right around that same time, the Patriots defense did something right, a rarity, in getting a sack of Dallas' Dak Prescott and followed it with a celebratory dance.

And finally, Belichick quit looking for answers, face-palming himself with his hand over his eyes as if he could barely look at all.

Patriots - Belichick Cowboys

And what will come left for a coach with few answers ... who is the architect of maybe his crummiest roster ever? Given the fact that the Pats entered the season with "hot-seat'' talk and (too-high?) expectations from owner Robert Kraft, and yeah ...

If there was a "Fire Belichick!'' movement when New England was 0-0, there will certainly be more than mumbling now at 1-3 and stuck in the AFC East basement.

The Cowboys jumped to 3-1 after doing most everything right, with fourth-stringers pitching in to score offensive touchdowns and a pick-6 on defense and another defensive touchdown on a sack-and-strip and a defensive lineman catching a 2-point conversation.

And of course, when "everything goes right for one team'' ... well, everything looks "worst-ever'' for the other, which is the case for Belichick's club.

Along the way, Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was benched in the third quarter after throwing two interceptions - both to Dallas corner DaRon Bland - one of which was that aforementioned pick-6. The Cowboys scored two defensive TDs, has a punter throw a 2-point conversion to a D-lineman, took charge early with a TD pass to CeeDee Lamb, and then poured it on, eventually allowing fourth-string UDFA rookie Hunter Luepke to score his first career TD.

Is this a bad Bill Belichick team? That's for the Patriots to figure out ... though for the record, the previous scoreboard-bad Belichick team played in 2003 and lost 31-0 against the Bills. For certain, if we are about to try to measure out the coming chants "Fire Belichick!'' vs. "Let's Make a Playoff Push!'' ... the former is going to drown out the latter.
