BREAKING: DA Announces Decision on Patriots' Jack Jones

The Suffolk County District Attorney has reportedly agreed to drop the weapons charges against New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones, stemming from his June arrest at Logan Airport.

FOXBORO — New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones has apparently put his legal troubles to rest in advance of the team’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles

As first reported by MassLive, the Massachusetts Suffolk County District Attorney’s office has dropped the weapons charges against the Pats second-year quarterback, stemming from his arrest at Boston’s Logan Airport in June.

“The Patriots cornerback moved his court date up to Tuesday morning [Sept. 5] and agreed to a deal in Boston Municipal Court,” wrote MassLive’s Chris Mason. “In exchange for a nolle prosequi — a formal document where prosecutors drop charges — Jones agreed to one year of pre-trial probation and 48 hours of community service.”

"Jack is grateful to have the case resolved and is looking forward to playing football,” Jones’ attorney said, via the NFL Network’s Mike Garofollo

The 25-year-old once again found himself embroiled in legal difficulty following his June arrest for attempting to board an aircraft with two loaded firearms. At the time, he was facing several charges including: possession of a concealed weapons in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and possession of a large capacity feeding device, according to police.

Massachusetts State Police said they were called to the TSA security checkpoint in Terminal B in June after two firearms were found in Jones' carry-on luggage. Shortly thereafter, he was taken into custody, before being released on $50,000 bail.

New England Patriots defensive back Jack Jones returns an interception thrown by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers for a touchdown during the second quarter of their game Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.

While the situation was harrowing enough for Jones on its own, the ramifications had the chance to place his future on an NFL field in doubt, as well as land him in serious trouble for quite some time.

In 2018, Jones was arrested at a Panda Express in Santa Paula, California, for commercial burglary — a second-degree misdemeanor to which he pled guilty and served 45 days of house arrest. In fact, this transgression was the primary reason for his plummeting stock in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Still, the former Sun Devil was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round at No. 121 overall. Jones finished his rookie campaign with two interceptions and six passes defended in 13 games before being suspended for the final two contests for a violation of team rules regarding injury disclosure.

The Pats and Eagles are set for a 4:25 p.m. kickoff Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
