Patriots Announce Dates for Rookie Minicamp

The New England Patriots are about to get up close and personal with their largest NFL Draft class since 2010.

FOXBORO — The New England Patriots are about to get their first collective look at their largest NFL Draft class in over a decade.

The Pats announced on Thursday, that they will be holding their rookie minicamp May 12-14 at Gillette Stadium. Per the NFL-NFLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, players will be allowed to participate in club activities for a maximum of 10 hours each day.

For the first time since 2010, the Pats made 12 draft selections; highlighted by their acquisition of Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez in the first-round. With the addition of three undrafted free agents, New England is currently housing 15 rookies on its roster.

While the Patriots are clearly anxious to initiate Gonzalez into their defensive backfield, fellow draftees such as defensive end Keion White and offensive linemen Sidy Sow and Atonio Mafi are expected to receive their share of attention, as well. Still, it would be an unrealistic expectation to assume full participation from all of New England’s rookies.

In fact, a pair of highly-touted Pats picks are entering their respective pro careers while continuing to battle injuries. Third-round selection Marte Mapu is recovering from a torn pectoral muscle suffered in February. Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte — who recently signed his four-year, $4 million rookie deal with New England on Thursday — sat out much of the spring of his final season at LSU while recovering from a 2021 season-ending ankle injury.

Still, the majority of New England’s rookie class is expected to be on hand to begin workouts on Friday. Additionally, University of Rhode Island wide receiver Ed Lee has accepted an invitation for a tryout. Per the NFL-NFLPA agreement, the Patriots are also permitted to host up to five veterans for the three-day event.

Scheduling information, along with any additional roster news, is expected to be provided by the team in the coming days.
