'You Think Of The GOAT!': Draft Prospect Drake Maye Reveals Image of Patriots

Highly-touted quarterback prospect Drake Maye would have huge shoes to fill if he were to join the New England Patriots.

Assuming the New England Patriots don't trade the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft, it is very likely that they will select their quarterback of the future.

Should they go down that path, North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye could be the easy choice. It's no guarantee that the Tar Heels star will still be available when the Patriots are on the clock, as the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, the two teams picking ahead of New England, are both in the quarterback market as well.

If Maye is there, though, the Patriots have to strongly consider taking him.

Joining the Patriots, the team that dominated for much of the 21st Century until recently, certainly comes with pressure, and Maye is well aware of that fact. During an appearance on The Adam Schefter Podcast, Maye revealed his thoughts on the prospect of playing in New England.

“New England, I mean, it’s hard not to talk about The Dynasty,” Maye said. “You know, you think of the GOAT. That’s what you think of when you think of New England you think of the GOAT, Tom Brady. So, just a place that’s had a lot of success and had some years lately that they haven’t been as successful and looking to get back on track and I know that’s, you know, right there near Boston.”

Filling the shoes of Brady, who won an NFL-record seven Super Bowls in his illustrious 23-year career, is simply an impossible task, and anyone expecting as much is setting themselves up for disappointment.

However, most Patriots fans would likely be happy if Maye could provide stability at the quarterback position, something the team has been sorely lacking since Brady left in 2020. Over his two seasons as a starter at UNC, the Charlotte-native completed 64.9 percent of his passes for 7,929 yards with 62 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He has the talent, but translating it to the NFL level is a different story.

No matter if Maye goes to New England, Washington or Chicago, Maye believes he'll begin his NFL journey in a great spot.

“Shoot, these are three great sports towns you’re talking about now,” Maye said. “So, all great places to play and, you know, I think a great spot to be a franchise quarterback at and that’s what I’m working towards. Whoever decides to draft me, I’m ready and excited to get to work.”
