Here are spring jersey numbers for new Patriots players

It's an unorthodox list of numbers for the rookies, but there's a rhyme and reason to that.

Thursday not only marks the first day that the New England Patriots spring practices are open to the media, but it also allows us to see which players are wearing which numbers.

Here are the numbers for each new player who finds themselves in New England this season.

Rookies:

Jake Bailey (P) - 6

Andrew Beck (TE) - 63

Nick Brossette (RB) - 64

Yodny Cajuste (OL) - 54

Byron Cowart (DL) - 59

Ryan Davis (WR) - 65

Hjalte Froholdt (OL) - 55

Malik Gant (DB) - 66

Tyler Gauthier (OL) - 67

Terez Hall (LB) - 68

Damien Harris (RB) - 53

N'Keal Harry (WR) - 50

Jakobi Meyers (WR) - 69

D'Angelo Ross (DB) - 70

Tyree St. Louis (OL) - 71

Jarrett Stidham (QB) - 58

Ken Webster (DB) - 61

Joejuan Williams (CB) - 51

Chase Winovich (DL) - 52

Veterans:

Michael Bennett (DL) - 77

Brandon Bolden (RB) - 38

Terrence Brooks (DB) - 25

Shilique Calhoun (LB)- 74

Jamie Collins Sr. (LB) - 8

Maurice Harris (WR) - 82

Dontrelle Inman (WR) - 15

Jakob Johnson (FB) - 47

Matt LaCosse (TE) - 83

Cedric Lang (OL) - 77

David Parry (DL) - 75

Mike Pennel (DL) - 98

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (TE) - 81

Demaryius Thomas (WR) - 88

Ben Watson (TE) - 84

If you're wondering why the rookies have very odd jersey numbers considering their position, almost a year ago exactly Mike Reiss of ESPN wrote about Bill Belichick's reasoning behind that approach. Belichick wants the players to get to know each other, but not by their jersey numbers.

Collins is weirdly wearing number 8, which is odd. But that will likely be questioned on Thursday during Belichick's media availability.

Bolden and Watson will be wearing the same numbers they wore during their previous tenure with the Patriots.
