Patriots lock up compensatory pick after LaAdrian Waddle lands on Bills' IR

When the New England Patriots let offensive tackle La'Adrian Waddle walk this offseason, he ended up signing with the AFC East-rival Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately for Waddle, his season ended abruptly just two weeks in after being placed on IR following a torn quad.
Luckily for the Patriots, they benefit from Waddle's IR designation.
According to capologist Nick Korte, Waddle had to make Buffalo's roster for New England to earn a sixth-round compensatory pick for 2020. Because Waddle landed on IR, that ensures that he remains on the roster and therefore the Patriots are awarded the pick.
Had LaAdrian Waddle not made the Bills' roster, the Patriots could have lost a 6th round 2020 comp pick.

Being placed on IR should ensure that he remains a compensatory free agent in favor of NE. https://t.co/nrSphYAIMD
That adds yet another draft pick for New England to use next year.
